Meet the Mentors article header

Gifted Travel Network’s Travel Business University (TBU) is designed to give travel advisors the support, guidance, mentorship, and community needed to achieve success. You may be asking, who exactly is providing this mentorship, support, and guidance to TBU members?

Today, I would like to introduce the TBU Mentors and tell you a little bit more about who they are and what they do here at GTN.

Travel MBA Mentor
Lisa Collins, Travel MBA Mentor

How long have you been in the industry, Lisa?
I completed travel school in Virginia in 1995 when my husband was in the military. The agency I worked at in Virginia asked me to move to Arizona to open a new location and I was there for about 2 years. I’ve been with Fitzgerald Travel and GTN since 2016.

What inspired/led you to become a mentor?
Since joining GTN and experiencing the community of camaraderie we have with this tribe, I loved the idea of being able to help others. I also did a lot of training at my previous agency, so this was something that just felt natural.

What is your role as a TBU Mentor?
My role as a mentor is to coach and guide new-to-the-industry advisors. There is no such thing as a stupid question. If I don’t know the answer, I will find it and we’ll both know. My specialty is ocean cruises and workflow organization. I love cruising myself and I get so much joy out of sharing that love of cruising with my clients.

What do you love most about being a mentor?
That’s a tough one because there are so many things I love. I guess I have to say the thing I love most is seeing someone grow into their entrepreneurial journey, become specialists in what brings them joy, and help others without hesitation. We have the greatest community of advisors in the world! I’m just happy to be part of it!

Travel MBA Mentor
Amy Kaufman Relihan, Travel MBA Mentor

How long have you been in the industry, Amy?
I have been in the industry for 6 years.

What inspired/led you to become a mentor?
I wanted to give back to our community and provide an added level of service to our new members.

What is your role as a TBU Mentor?
My major focus is the TravelMBA program. Guiding members through workflow, client qualifying, consumer shows, charging fees and positivity.

What do you love most about being a mentor?
Watching the lightbulb moments. When members overcome their fears and experience success as a result.

Travel MBA & Accelerate Mentor
Kristin Matthews, Travel MBA & Accelerate Mentor

How long have you been in the industry, Kristin?
I have been in the industry since 2018

What inspired/led you to become a mentor?
I wanted to be a mentor because I love being able to share what I have learned over the years… and talk!  : ) Seriously though, my first career was in counseling and it’s still kind of my jam.

What is your role as a TBU mentor?
I am a mentor for both TMBA and Accelerate. I view my role as a mentor overall as one of the facilitators to our TBU members. I am here to answer questions and offer support on a variety of topics. I especially love questions on booking FITS, processes, branding and marketing, and mindset. If I don’t have an answer myself, I will make sure I find someone who does! I am here to be a sounding board, a good listener, and offer a different perspective.

What do you love most about being a mentor?
What I love most is my connection to this great group of people in TBU, but I also love being of service and hopefully helping others.

Kara Robinson Travel MBA Accelerate Mentor
Kara Robinson, Accelerate Mentor

How long have you been in the industry, Kara?
Almost 18 years.

What inspired/led you to become a mentor?
I love the travel industry, but it can be hard to navigate. I would have loved someone to help me avoid some of my pitfalls when I first opened. My business truly catapulted to the next level once I got into a coaching program. Helping people truly brings me joy.

What is your role as a TBU Mentor?
My major focus is in the Accelerate program. My specialty is in client management/care and selling luxury travel. From my own experience, I also love to help guide our members through the discussion of hiring employees or IC’s to help them facilitate their workload.

What do you love most about being a mentor?
It is amazing to watch someone as the “lightbulb” clicks on during a conversation! Then receiving an email that what was put in motion was a success.

We hope you enjoyed “meeting” the mentors and learning more about their roles here at GTN. If you are new to the industry and would like to hit the ground running as a travel entrepreneur, we are currently accepting applications to our Travel MBA 2022-2023 August Cohort. Click here to apply!
