What is Your Dream for Your Travel Business?
By: Sandy Saburn, CTIE

As children, we have incredible imaginations. We can conjure up great ideas and dreams at a moment’s notice. We aren’t bound by rules of what can and can’t happen. We come up with amazing ideas and are excited by our dreams.

As we get older, we are encouraged to be more practical, stay grounded, and be serious. And for goodness sake, stop daydreaming!

Today, I am asking you to tap into that child-like imagination and take time to daydream.

Before we get into daydreaming, let me put some rules around it: there are no rules. Simply put, don’t limit yourself. Dream big!

Just close your eyes and imagine yourself a few years in the future. You are a happy and loving life. Feel the smile spread across your face as you actually feel that happiness. Really feel it.

What does life look like? What is that makes you happy? What do you want in your personal life, relationships, and work? Remember, there are no restrictions. Wherever you see yourself and whatever you are doing, embrace it.

Spend some time really seeing what type of work you are doing. Who are you working with? What are you doing? What is bringing you so much pleasure? Remember, you aren’t putting any restrictions around your daydreaming. No reality checks here!

Get clear about this dream and what you and your business look like in it. Take that information and bring it back to reality and find a way to make it work.

Was your dream to live and work from a beach in the Caribbean? You can do that.

Was it to work 20 hours a week and still make a decent living? You can do that.

Maybe it was that you only work on the travel part of your business and someone else does the “boring” stuff. That can happen too.

You are an entrepreneur and you determine what that business looks like. However, if you are buying into limiting beliefs that can certainly hold you back and you won’t be able to achieve your goals.

At Gifted Travel Network our mission is to help people build a business and life they love around their passion for travel. It’s the entire reason our Travel MBA program exists – to ensure people build a successful business (profitable, fun, and rewarding) by doing it right from the beginning.

Yet we see so many people in the travel industry – the most FUN industry in the world – not enjoying themselves because they are afraid to go for what they want. They have bought into a myth about the travel industry that’s not true.

For some that myth is, “You have to work a lot of hours to make money.” Not true.

For others, it is, “You can’t make a decent living in travel.” Also not true.

One of the first and most important steps is to surround yourself with positive people who love what they do. Let’s be clear: loving what you do doesn’t mean you never have an “off” day. It means that at your core you love your career. You know there are peaks and valleys, but you don’t let the valley keep you from believing there will be a peak again.

If you are surrounded by people who are doom and gloom, you will become doom and gloom. Finding a tribe that can support the dream you have for your future is a critical step in achieving it. It doesn’t mean that they are doing it for you, but they are cheering you on every step of the way.

You deserve that dream. Make it happen!
