What to do Right Now to Have a Successful Travel Business in 2021

Ready for 2021? I imagine most of you said, YES! We are all tired of 2020 and ready for a new page on the calendar. Most importantly, we are ready for a return to travel. A return to lots of clients. A return to profitability. A return to fun and happiness and all the great things we love about this industry.

Well here is good news: there are just 99 days until January 1!

 

To help you get ready I am sharing a checklist of items to do in the fourth quarter to prepare for 2021. Some of these are quick and easy tasks and some will take longer. Spending some time on these tasks now will reap benefits in 2021.

Generally, the fourth quarter is a good time to focus on what’s worked, what hasn’t, and what you want to be different in 2021. If you keep doing what you’ve been doing, you’ll keep getting what you’ve been getting. If you want different results, you have to change things up.

Here’s a tip to get the most out of this analysis and strategic planning: work with an accountability partner. You can share ideas, give one another feedback, and help keep each other accountable to commitments or deadlines. If you don’t currently have an accountability partner, just ask another agent to work with you. If no one comes to mind immediately, there are probably lots of agents in the various communities you are in who would be happy to work with you (after all, it benefits them too!).

  • Does your website need updating?
  • IFO: Update, change, or add
  • Does it tell your story and have your contact information?
  • Is it brand congruent (right colors, fonts, etc)?

Client List

  • Verify mailing and email addresses with clients
  • Sync your CRM and Autoresponder
  • Identify your top 20 clients and reach out to them

Social Media

  • Conduct an audit to see what topics are getting most engagement
  • Evaluate gain/loss this year
  • Does About section have your website and contact info?

Marketing

  • Identify list building strategies for 2021
  • Evaluate current marketing channels for effectiveness
  • Negotiate/re-negotiate contracts

Numbers

  • Fees: evaluate your fee structure and make changes for 2021
  • Identify most profitable partner/vendor
  • Identify least profitable partner/vendor
